A fighter who finishes one useful skill before the next arena match is more valuable than one who is halfway through an ambitious training plan. The Doctore helps you reach that deadline by accelerating a gladiator's training. His boost also changed during the demo updates, so old advice about its fatigue penalty can lead you to the wrong decision.

What the Doctore actually does

The Doctore is a staff member who accelerates a selected gladiator's training. The August 19 developer update describes the whip effect as doubling training speed for two days. An August 30 update added a cooldown progress bar, making it easier to see when another boost is available.

The important later change arrived on October 16: the boost stopped adding extra Fatigue. The developer had already removed its Morale penalty. You can check these changes in the official Dominus Gladiatus update history.

That does not make the gladiator immune to exhaustion. Ordinary training and arena activity still require fatigue management; the change removes the boost's additional fatigue cost, not the rest of the game's recovery system.

How to hire the Doctore and use the boost

  1. Open your Dominus management options and look under Staff for the Doctore.
  2. Check the displayed hiring cost against the money you need for upkeep, equipment, and recovery.
  3. Give the intended gladiator a skill to train.
  4. Select that trainee when using the Doctore's training action.
  5. Watch both skill progress and the Doctore's cooldown before planning another use.

Player experience in the recorded demo runs shows why the third step matters. Players sometimes tried to boost a resting fighter or struggled to switch between trainees. Start with an actual training assignment rather than assuming the staff member automatically improves everyone in the yard.

There is no reason to copy an old video's hiring price. Staff quality and hiring prices received further balancing in the November 2 pre-launch update; use the value shown in your build.

Choose the trainee who can use the time

Use the boost where it solves a specific scheduling problem. Check the next match, the skill's remaining training time, and whether that fighter will have time to rest afterward.

A short skill that can finish before a two-person match may be a better immediate target than a long upgrade on a fighter who must enter the arena tomorrow. Conversely, a reserve with several free days can make good use of accelerated development while the main pair recovers.

The Palus is another training aid. Player experience describes placing a fighter at that training post while using the Doctore's boost. This supports combining the available training tools, but not inventing a universal completion-time formula: check the actual progress and time displayed in your game.

Keep the boost separate from readiness

The Doctore improves training speed, not every part of preparation. Before sending the trainee to an arena match, still check:

  • Fatigue and any resulting arena-health reduction.
  • Injuries and whether treatment is needed.
  • Morale, including refusals that could leave the lineup short.
  • Whether the newly trained skill fits the fighter's equipment and role.

The November 2 update also lets arena battles contribute to the currently trained skill. That contribution cannot finish a skill level, however. A gladiator still has to return to training to complete it, so a nearly finished bar is not the same as an available upgrade.

FAQ

Does the Doctore's whip still add Fatigue?

The October 16 demo update removed its additional Fatigue cost. Earlier recordings showing that penalty describe an older version.

Does hiring him make every gladiator train faster automatically?

The recorded demo training action targets a selected gladiator. Assign the skill and use the action on the intended trainee; monitor the cooldown rather than assuming a permanent school-wide boost.

Should I hire the Doctore before buying equipment?

There is no universal order. Hire him when faster training addresses your next deadline and the purchase leaves enough money to keep the Ludus running and the required fighters equipped.
